Set Apart Conference

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Set Apart Conference with my dear friend, Alice.

It was two days of great fellowship with old friends and new friends and lots of wonderful preaching and teaching...both encouraging and convicting.

I managed to make it through the weekend feeling good...and only a couple of contractions.
I'm so glad I was able to go. With baby coming any time now, I won't be able to get away for too long for the next year or so.

Ann Voskamp spoke both Friday and Saturday morning and she was wonderful.

We got to meet her and got hugs Friday afternoon and I was able to track her down again on Saturday and had her sign my One Thousand Gifts book.

She is just cute and sweet and humble.

Liz Curtis Higgs spoke both afternoon and she too was awesome and very funny.

The worship team was wonderful.

Thank you Alice for thinking of me and inviting me along.

God bless!

Multitude Monday - January 21st, 2013

There has been a wide variety of excitement around the Neaton ranch this past week.

There was a rooster attack. He managed to scratch my leg pretty good, even through my jeans. His days here are numbered.

Joseph has finally come to grips with being weaned. It's been about 3 weeks and just this past week he finally stopped asking for 'milk time' and stopped throwing a fit at bed and nap time. It's such a blessing to have one less battle around here. Tonight I brought him to his room and laid him down and the sweet little one says...'cover me up, night mom.'

We also brought home a cute little puppy on Saturday. Joe and the kids had went and picked him out about a month ago and Joe went and picked him up this weekend. We have been talking about him off and on for the last month and the kids kept going back and forth on wanting him and not wanting him.

I'm pretty sure everyone is thrilled that he is here now. He has seemed to have had numerous names over the last couple of days, but think everyone has settled on - Buddy.

Dirty faces make me smile!

Other blessings...meals stocked away in the freezer, the start of greenhouse prepping underway, Friday night dinners with friends, Netflixing movies and no commercials, ordering groceries through Amazon, phone calls and chats with friends.

The week ahead includes a midwives appointment (30 weeks already), a meeting with an insurance salesman and a final Christmas party.

Joining Ann...

God bless!

Multitude Monday - January 14th, 2013

So many gifts for our family over the last month or so...large and small...seen, heard, felt and experienced. Here's a few...

Children heard playing so well with each other...
...Joseph having a couple of extra 'mama's' to help him out

Chickens in the front yard

Leftover Christmas treats unearthed in the freezer

New niece, Reagan...
...held, snuggled and cuddled

Sitting and reading with my 3 favorite little ones...
...book after book after book

Fresh baked, homemade warm bread...
...and loads of butter
...and Joseph says honey too!

My partner-in-life, Joe beside me...
...working, parenting, living, loving

Winter sunshine, even with it is bitter cold out...
...stocking hats and mittens

Joseph's ever growing vocabulary...
...and the things he says

He has been telling me 'hold on, hold on' when I ask for him.
Apparently I tell everyone to 'hold on' quite often.

He is fascinated with the word 'tuna' and will randomly
throw it into whatever he is talking about.

Children quickly getting over a stomach bug...
...all 3 were hit, but none had it for more than 24 hours

Growing baby belly...
...and just now having to break out the maternity pants

Counting with Ann today and looking forward to a week working back into a routine.
God bless!

Monday at the Neaton Ranch

Busy days are best organized by God. ~ Pamela McQuade

Around the Neaton Ranch...Beautiful weather today. I got some weeds pulled and cucumber plants transplanted and even time for a little gator ride with the family tonight.

Listening to...
Hubby snoring on the couch.

Moments of Gratitude...
The past week has been all about my grandma Geri and the brain surgery she had. They live in Kansas, but she was able to get into Mayo in Rochester for her surgery...putting her only a couple of hours away from me. Early Friday morning, she went in for an 8 hour surgery to remove a baseball size tumor that was attached to numerous parts of her brain. Praise the Lord, the surgery was a huge success. Her surgeon was the chair of the neurosurgery department at Mayo and he was able to remove the entire tumor.

The tumor was found after she started losing her eyesight and cataract surgery hadn't corrected the issues with her eyes. As of this morning, she was doing tremendously well and her eyesight also seems to be improving each hour.

God is so GOOD! There are a ton of little things that have happened and fallen into place along this journey of hers...there is no way that God doesn't have His Hands in it.

Myself, grandma and my mom...can you tell we are related??
This was last Wednesday before she met with the specialists and surgeon.

This was Saturday...day after surgery
Her husband, John, my cousin Dylan and my aunt and uncle, Jim and Shelly

Reading...
Bible

Praying...
So many things...
Grandma and great recovery
Relationship rebuilding and extending forgiveness
Schooling plans for next year

Home Learning...
Planning on starting to teach Charlie to read...she has already managed to teach herself quite a few things. I borrowed Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons from a friend...now just to open and use it.

On Our Plates...
We grilled burgers and potatoes tonight and had fresh asparagus and lettuce from the garden. I have decided I am a 24 hour meal planner. I almost always have basics in the pantry and freezer, so I can throw something together...and our schedules and moods change from day to day. Tuesdays are Charlie picks supper nights, so I will have to talk to her in the morning and see what the plan is for tomorrow.

Ahead This Week...
Tomorrow I'm headed to the hospital to visit with grandma. I have a sitter lined up for Wednesday and will plan on working in my office and hopefully getting the onions planted like I had planned well over a week ago. Bible Study with some wonderful girlfriends on Friday. We will be finishing up a book and I'm excited to hear what they thought of the last couple of chapters.

God bless!

On My Mind Today....

Really pondering this today and praying that those I love also know that in Christ they too are BLESSED, CHOSEN, ADOPTED, ACCEPTED, REDEEMED, AND FORGIVEN!

Someone recently mentioned being holier than thou and it caught me off guard and I had nothing to say at the time. But now, all I can think is how unholy I am. I strive for holy every day and every day I fail because I am a sinner. There is no perfection in this human soul.

But God...He is Almighty. He has redeemed me! He has saved me! He grants me new grace and mercies every day!

Praying you all are able to feel the Lord's presence and unending love today.

God bless!

My 2012 Word(s) ~ Be Present

God is present in all the moments...
Wherever you are, be all there...
I only live the full life when I live fully in the moment...
All above from Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts

I've been contemplating and praying about my word/goal/vision for 2012 over the last couple of weeks. Last night I was flipping through Ann's book and looking at all the passages I had underlined and the above few things jumped out at me and confirmed that I was on the right track.

For 2012 ~ I will BE PRESENT.

I will be present here and now...with my husband...with my children...in fellowship with my God...

You can join the community at OneWord365 or just share your 2012 word with me in the comments below.

Courageous.....and a giveaway!

And the winner is.....................................

#2 - Shelly B

Shelly - I will seed them out in some time in the next week. Enjoy! Holly

Last weekend, Joe and I were able to go and see the new movie from Sherwood Pictures - Courageous. Thanks grandma LuAnn for babysitting. It was wonderful! I laughed and I cried. It was inspiring and convicting.

The synopsis per the Courageous website:
Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.

When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children?
Filled with action-packed police drama, COURAGEOUS is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Riveted moviegoers will once again find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.

Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous.

This movie isn't just for dads, but for everyone. There were situations that would speak to anyone...they were not all perfect fathers...not in the beginning nor in the end. And a great reminder for everyone...our children are an eternal treasure!

It may have been produced as an inspiration and conviction for fathers to step up, to lead their families, to teach their sons to be men and to do the right thing even if you have to stand alone, but I also took note of the wives portrayed in the movie.

They were helpmates to their husbands, they were encouraging and supportive. I particularly liked Carmen. A great reminder for me! I can always be a better wife and mother.

Since I truly enjoyed the movie, Courageous and have enjoyed Sherwood Pictures other films...I thought I would have a little giveaway.

For one lucky winner...a movie package of Sherwood Pictures other films - Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and Flywheel.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment.
I will randomly pick a winner on Monday October 10th, 2011.

God bless!

REJOICING

This is the day the Lord has made.
We will REJOICE and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24 (NLT)

I'm not a resolution kind of girl. I seem to go through ups and downs of new schedules, new goals, new plans and things change from month to month and day to day. There were many blog posts about what others wanted 2011 to be to them...their YEAR OF (fill in the blank).

Tina's - Year of Prayer
Ali's - Intentional, Joyful, Grace-filled
Ann's - Year of Here
Jenny's - Year of Joy

I realize I'm a month into 2011 already, but I love this idea and it has been floating around in my head for the last month. For me 2011 is going to be The Year of Rejoicing. I need to slow down and be more present with my husband, with my children, with my friends, with my God. I have some many things to rejoice in and it seems so easy to hurry through everyday that I miss the joy in the days.

So, I will choose to rejoice today, tomorrow, next week, next month and in all circumstances. The Lord has blessed me with these days, with these children, with the best husband...such great causes for rejoicing. Even in the hard things, the Lord is shaping me as a wife, a mother, a friend....all worthy things to rejoice in.

A few blessings from the last week.....

680. Big sisters in love with their baby brother
681. Charlie telling me her baby brother smells 'just like brother'
682. All 3 little ones behaving fairly well at church for me
683. Extra helpful hands at church

684. New white snow
685. The reminder of being washed clean by Him

686. Soup on cold nights
687. Girls who love soup and salads
688. Charlie and Cori slurping tomato soup is one of the cutest things

689. Sound of stools sliding across the kitchen floor...
690. ...my little ones coming to help

691. Movie and popcorn with the family
692. 3-year old mastering puzzles all by herself
693. 18 month old sharing her snacks (even it means trying to feed raisins to her baby brother)
694. Mama catching the raisin feeding right away

Counting with Ann.

God bless!

My Story

As promised weeks ago...my testimony. It seems odd to me to say that because I kind of feel like I don't have a testimony...nothing special anyways. I didn't have this profound experience. I wasn't a drug user with an amazing conversion. I didn't have a near death experience that God used to draw me to Him. I can't remember the exact date or time that it happened. But, I do know there is a moment in my past and at that time I gave my life to Christ. And it wasn't all that long ago and I still struggle a lot with depending on Him and not trying to do it on my own (don't we all?).

If you would have asked me 10 years ago or even 5 years ago, I would have told you I was a christian. I mean I grew up going to church and my parents taught me right from wrong and even though I had done some bad things, I was an overall good person. I thought that's all it took...be good and go to heaven.

I couldn't have been more wrong, my doing and doing and doing was getting me nowhere and definitely wasn't helping give me peace about life and especially the new phase of motherhood I was in at the time.

Prior to getting married, I attended church with Joe and that was about it. We went to Sunday morning services, but beyond that I was not involved in any Bible Studies, didn't spend any personal time in The Word, etc. And after we were married and I was pregnant with Charlie, I went through the classes at church, converted and became a member of his church. Hindsight what it is, I know I was not making an informed decision, nor was I growing my relationship with Christ. I was not a believer at this point and none of those choices made me one. It was more of a head/logistical decision that I made that I thought would make us raising children together easier. Not the case at all, it has actually made it a lot harder, since I now question things that that particular denomination teaches.

The point...after Charlie was born, I struggled with this new motherhood thing. Nursing was not going well at all. I was stressed, overwhelmed and feeling like a failure because we (Charlie and I) just couldn't seem to come together and make it work.

I remember the day, Charlie was 5 weeks old. I had been pumping around the clock for weeks with one or two attempts at nursing each day that always seemed to end in us both crying and having a fit. I was exhausted and frustrated that I couldn't just make it work my way. I so thought this motherhood thing would be a walk in the park...funny right? I was sitting outside in the hammock swinging Charlie back and forth (We didn't know it yet, but she had huge issues with digesting dairy and was just cranky and miserable a lot and the only thing that made her happy was constant motion and we had to be outside). I was bawling and finally broke down and just begged and pleaded with God to help me...I was willing to do anything...anything.

It maybe sounds funny to someone who hasn't experienced something similar, but at that very moment I felt better, lighter and more capable of moving forward with parenting, marriage, everything. And guess what...Charlie starting nursing like a champ with in a couple of days and actually hated bottles from that point on. It helped Charlie and I's bonding, it helped my bonding with Christ and gave me confidence that I could do it...with His help of course.

God's grace and hope is so good and the impossible is not impossible for God!

“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

God bless!

Today...

This is a little long, but I need to get it out of my head.

So, we went to a different church this morning than our church we normally attend. This came about because we (Joe and I) have been having some issues with the right choice for us, for our family and we both think we are right. Imagine that huh, two sinners who think they knwo what's best.

We got into an argument this morning, when he asked why I didn't want to go back to this 'other church'. My first answer was, I don't want to discuss this right now because it always ends up in a fight and the conversation goes the same way every time. I should have left it alone this morning. Our conversation went nowhere, just like every other time we have it. I get loud and Joe doesn't and I was actually compared to the devil today.

In the end I gave in, gave up and we ended up going to this 'other church'. I don't want to go into all the details because I'm not really sure how to explain myself, but I really believe this is not the right place for myself, our children or our family. My salvation is important to me, as well as the salvation of my family and the thought of attending this other church scares me. In my opinion this church is not completely Biblical.

Joe did ask me what changed my mind about going and all I could say was I don't know. I think I was praying that something dramatic would happen that would make me sure of my feelings and be a lightbulb moment for him. We haven't attend this 'other church' for about 2 years, so I was interested to see if it was the same as I remembered.

The first thing I noticed was there were no Bibles in the pews. I thought odd, but I had brought mine along, so I figured I was ok. Then I looked around and saw that no one else seemed to have a Bible with them, again odd to me. This is maybe nitpicky on my part, but if your church is going to teach the Word of God, wouldn't it be appropriate to have Bibles available.

The second thing I noticed, one of the readings was not even out of the Bible. And when the readings were being read, the book of the Bible was referenced but the actual scripture verses was not. So, I had a hard time even finding the exact verses to follow along.

The gospel verses were read and I thought finally a great choice of scripture for a sermon. The verses were...

Luke 14:25-35
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

I'm thinking we are going to hear a sermon on putting Christ first and desiring Him more than anything else, even our family. And that being a Christ-follower may mean hrd times and rejection. I though great a sermon to reinforce what I was trying to get across this morning, but could not.
But instead, the preacher gets up to give his sermon and the first thing he says is..."there are more people here than I was expecting. I didn't prepare a very long sermon, thinking there wouldn't be many here." I thought, there can still be substance in a short sermon. I was wrong in this case.

He briefly mentioned the verses that had just been read and not in any important context of following Jesus is hard and not everyone will always be happy with you. It seemed out of context to me. And he tried to tie in an issue he had with another preacher who was older and making a big stink of about doing things a certain way and said something to the affect of this older priest was just being stubborn and was sinning with his tongue as he was totally bashing the guy from the pulpit.

He then moved on and 75-80% of his sermon was on how much he likes the tv show Glee and that you should watch it because it is fun, but also shows how the world is now. He referenced disabilities, homosexuality and bullying. Not that I don't think we should be aware of the times we live in or what is going on in the world, but I think as believers we need to strive to be Christ-like and not of this world. And I thought the pulpit was not the place at all for a tv endorsement. I want to be fed the Word of God when I go to service.
The whole experience seemed odd and unfulfilling to me. I really tried to go into it with an open mind, but left feeling sick to my stomach and more sure that this 'other church' is not for our family.

The one good take-away, I did need to hear the Luke scripture from above today. It was/is a great reminder that following Jesus is hard, but that I need to keep doing what's right in Christ's eyes. I can't look for the easy way out. I won't always be comfortable. After all if I could do it all on my own and if it was easy, Christ would not have had to die on the Cross for my sins.

This has also reminded me that I need to share my testimony (I'm thinking another post later this week) and to be more open about sharing the Gospel especially with my family and friends. The thought of hell scares me and I sure wouldn't want someone I love to end up there.

I was reading in Matthew this morning also and was reminded of a few other great pieces of God's Word.

Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Matthew 7:21-23
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

Both reinforce my current feelings, following Christ is hard. And it is not what we do, but our relationship with Him. We need to know Him for Him to know us!

Somewhat related note, Perry Noble has been doing a wonderful series over the last few weeks. Take some time and listen to his sermons. He always blows me away. Click here and you will go to the page were you can listen or watch all them.

God bless!
