Book Review: Moments of Truth by John MacArthur

Day by day, MacArthur quotes Scripture and helps us apply it to our lives with eye-opening lessons and probing questions that are relevant to the season. (from the back of the book)

Moments of Truth: Unleashing God's Word One Day at a Time is a brand new devotional by John MacArthur. The book is arranged with daily readings and arranged in monthly themes. For example, January is Beginnings, February is Love, May is Parenting, and June is Marriage, etc.

Each day starts with a piece of Scripture, then a short relevant story and ends with a thought provoking question that relates to that day's reading. For example, May 8th's scripture is Matthew 19:13 - Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray. And the question after the reading is - How are you pointing your children to the Savior?

The daily readings are short, but challenging. If you are looking for a devotional that will both encourage you and challenge you, I highly recommend Moments of Truth. I enjoyed it and look forward to spending more time reading through the daily devotional.

I received this book free from the publisher through the Book Sneeze, book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

God bless -

Happy Birthday Joseph Jr.

Our baby boy turned 1 two weeks ago. The adjustment to 3 little ones has been interesting and this past year has flown by.

He has been walking for about 6-7 weeks and pretty much runs everywhere now. He keeps up with his sisters pretty well.

He got his 5th tooth just before his birthday. We have been so blessed that none of the children have had too many issues with getting teeth. We also finally moved him out of our bedroom and the pack-n-play and into the crib in his own room. He is still waking up once or twice a night, but it's not a big deal for me. I'm usually up a couple of time no matter what, between him and his sisters getting up to go potty.

He loves being outside and managed to get around pretty well on his own in the snow. He was a little annoyed that I had put thumb-less mittens on him. He was having a hard time picking up the snow.

Today, he went running after Joe and the girls when he heard them talking about going outside and going for a Gator ride. He knew he didn't want to be left out.

Yes, we all went for a Gator ride in January.

We intended to have a birthday party for him last Sunday. But ended up canceling it that day because of some not wanting to or not being able to come. So, it was just our little family. We sang Happy Birthday, blew out candles and eat some yummy gluten-free carrot cake. We liked the cake better that the regular carrot cake I normally make.

Joseph got his own plain gluten-free carrot cake cupcake because he can't have cream cheese frosting.

Coconut oil does a body good! He was just out of the tub and eating coconut oil right out of the jar. (We use it on our skin, so I had opened it for that.)

Happy birthday Joseph Arthur!
We love you!

My 2012 Word(s) ~ Be Present

God is present in all the moments...
Wherever you are, be all there...
I only live the full life when I live fully in the moment...
All above from Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts

I've been contemplating and praying about my word/goal/vision for 2012 over the last couple of weeks. Last night I was flipping through Ann's book and looking at all the passages I had underlined and the above few things jumped out at me and confirmed that I was on the right track.

For 2012 ~ I will BE PRESENT.

I will be present here and now...with my husband...with my children...in fellowship with my God...

Happy New Year!
